about the orchestra
sbo came into being in 1990 as Sligo Early Music Ensemble. For over thirty years it has been exploring the baroque repertoire - including some very dark corners of it - as well as enjoying collaborations with other ensembles and artists.
Our first concert was given in Parkes' Castle on the shore of Lough Gill in 1991 and our first collaboration was with Kathleen O'Hara and the Amaryllis Singers and produced a performance of Purcel Dido and Aeneas in Markree Castle.
sbo rejoices in its unusual character; it is made up of musicians from very different backgrounds, professional, student and amateur performers.
sbo is always pleased to hear from prospective members.
Support
For the purchase of baroque bows, flutes and oboe the sbo gratefully acknowledge support from Music Network’s Capital Scheme, funded by The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Music Network is funded by the Arts Council.
